Important Aspects of Safe Driving on Spanish Roads
When planning a trip in Spain, whether in your own or a rented car, ensure the following important items are present:
- Two emergency stop signs. It's recommended to have two signs to place them in different directions.
- A spare wheel or a tire repair kit.
- A reflective vest is mandatory when exiting the vehicle on the road or shoulder. While not always required to be carried inside the car, note that Spanish police might not fine a foreign driver for not having a vest, but its presence could be crucial in emergencies.
- Important safety elements such as a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and tool kit are not mandatory but recommended to have onboard.
Speed Control
Observe the standard speed limits indicated on road signs:
- In urban areas - 50 km/h;
- Outside urban areas - 90 km/h;
- On highways - 100 km/h;
- On motorways - 120 km/h.
Note that separate speed limits apply to vehicles with trailers.
Spain widely employs speed control cameras. Be attentive to avoid fines.
Alcohol
The maximum permissible blood alcohol content while driving is 0.5 ‰, but for drivers with less than 2 years of experience, it's 0.3 ‰.
Child Safety
Children under 3 years old must be in appropriate child restraint systems suitable for their weight.

Fuel and Refueling
In Spain, you'll find unleaded gasoline types 95 and 98 (Gasolina sin plomo), as well as diesel (Gasoleo 'A' or Gas-oil). Leaded gasoline is not available here.
There's also a few LPG gas stations, known as "Autogas." If you need the coordinates of these stations, they are publicly available.
