When it comes to renting a car for the first time, certain terms may seem complicated or unclear. At SOLO - rent a car, we want your rental experience to be as smooth and problem-free as possible and are here to resolve any doubts you may have. In this article, we will explain the main differences between the security deposit and the excess fee, why a security deposit is charged, when you should expect the deposit to be returned and what to do in case of an accident.
What is the difference between the security deposit and the excess fee?
The security deposit must be paid when receiving the car. It can be used to cover possible vehicle damages during the rental period. The "franchise" or the excess fee is the amount you are liable for in case you get the "Budget Pack" during your rental process, which is equal to the security deposit amount. In the "All-Inclusive Pack", there is no excess fee.
How much is the deposit?
The deposit amount varies according to the vehicle type and the package selected. If you choose the "Budget Pack", the deposit (and as such, the "franchise") ranges from 1150€ (for the economy car models) to 2500€ (luxury models). In the "All-Inclusive Pack", the deposit will range from 250€ (economy models) to 750€ (luxury models). In this lies one of the many advantages of selecting the "All-Inclusive Pack" – the deposit is reduced significantly.
When and how I will get my money back?
SOLO - rent a car will charge the deposit to your bank card and return it within 25 working days after your rental period is finished, if the terms of the contract were not violated and the car returned in good and functioning conditions. Keep in mind - you can pay with both credit and debit card when renting a car in Spain from us.
What happens with my deposit when the car has been damaged?
If you selected the "Budget Pack", the damage will be appraised using the fixed price list (can be found in the Terms & Conditions section on our website). If you selected the "All-Inclusive Pack", you are fully covered in case of any damages to the exterior of the vehicle including body parts, tires, rims, windshields, windows and lights.
Why do I need to leave a deposit when I purchase the All-Inclusive Pack?
There are certain things that are not covered by the "All-Inclusive Pack". These include the excess of mileage, lack of fuel, damages to the interior, and negligent use of the vehicle.
What should I do if I’ve been involved in a major accident?
If you were involved in a major accident, you must provide the police and accident report to your respective office within 48 hours after the incident took place. Our team will then investigate the case and report back to you ASAP.
