What You Need to Rent a Car
- Passport or ID.
- A category B driving licence valid in Spain, held for at least one year. Provisional and learner licences are not accepted.
- A physical bank card in the main driver’s name (details below). The card must be presented at the office when you collect the car.
Driver Age
The minimum age to rent from SOLO Rent a Car is 21.
- 21–25 years: considered young drivers, and an additional fee applies.
- 26–69 years: no additional fees. The exception is a driving licence held for 1 to 4 years, in which case the Young Driver fee also applies.
- Over 69: the company reserves the right to refuse the rental.
Some vehicles are not available to young drivers.
Deposit
The deposit must be paid with a physical bank card in the main driver’s name. As a rule it must be a credit card: debit cards are not accepted, except where expressly provided for by the chosen package and at the company’s discretion. For Luxury Elite vehicles you need two physical credit cards, both in the main driver’s name.
Insurance and Basic, Comfort and Select Packages
Your rental includes compulsory third-party liability insurance (subject to the exclusions and excesses of the policy). The level of cover for damage to the car depends on the package you choose:
| Basic | Comfort | Select | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Excess | Full excess | Reduced to the deposit amount | No excess |
| Third-party liability | yes | yes | yes |
| Theft | yes | yes | yes |
| Fire | yes | yes | yes |
| Tyres (puncture) | no | yes | yes |
| Free towing (under 50 km) | no | yes | yes |
| Free 24/7 roadside assistance | no | yes | yes |
| Bodywork (bonnet, wings, doors, boot, roof, bumpers) | no | limited* | yes |
| Glass (windscreen, rear window, side windows) | no | limited* | yes |
| Wing mirrors | no | limited* | yes |
| Headlights | no | limited* | yes |
| Damage settlement | no | limited* | yes |
*”Limited” means the renter pays all repair or compensation costs up to the excess set by the contract and the deposit paid.
With the Basic and Comfort packages, the excess depends on the value of the car and ranges from €3,000 to €10,000. With the Select package the excess is €0 (for the Economy and Premium categories). A €0 excess does not remove the renter’s liability in cases of negligence, improper use of the vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, breach of the rental agreement, or damage not covered by the policy. The company is not responsible for personal belongings left in the vehicle.
Fuel Policy and AdBlue
You receive the car with a full tank and return it with a full tank. If the tank is not full, you pay for the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee.
If the AdBlue warning light comes on during your rental, refill AdBlue immediately. Do not continue driving if the remaining AdBlue range is 100 km or less. Contact us for instructions, or refill AdBlue yourself and keep the receipt. SOLO Rent a Car may reimburse the cost of a correct AdBlue refill against the receipt, or offer a replacement vehicle.
